Grants and Funding Opportunities
Pacific Islands Fund
Since 2004, the US Embassy in Suva has administered a small-grants program made available by the Office of Oceans, Environment and Science Initiatives (OESI) that was intended to support the Department of State’s goals on environment, science, technology and heath issues and problems in areas including:
Integrated watershed and marine ecosystem management, coral reef protection;
Ecosystem based fisheries, management and protection of threatened and endangered marine species;
Management of hazardous chemicals and ozone-depleting substances;
HIV/AIDS and other emerging infectious diseases;
Bio-terrorism;
Using space-based technology for rapid response to natural and man-made diseases;
Sustainable development strategies;
Environmental law enforcement;
Good governance/ transparency;
Fresh water initiatives, including safe drinking water systems.
In 2004, over US$180,000 was awarded in grants to 5 projects.

PACIFIC ISLAND FUND FOR SMALL DEVELOPMENT GRANTS
Target amount for individual grants is under $25,000. Grant proposals should focus primarily on supporting democracy, rule of law, and good governance; grants addressing social welfare issues will be evaluated as a secondary priority.
The deadline for receipt of grant proposals to be received by the Embassy is the March 25, 2008.
It would be helpful if potential grant applicants contacted the Embassy initially before embarking upon developing proposals. For contact information, see below.
At a minimum, applications should contain the following:
a) name of project and detailed overview of the project;
b) total budget requested;
c) duration of project;
d) legal name of the organization;
e) name, date, and place of birth of the organization director;
f) name, date, and place of birth of the organization contact for the application;
g) mailing address;
h) phone number;
i) email address (if available);
j) brief 1-2 paragraph description of the organization's history and achievements; and
k) any previous U.S. Government funding to the organization.
