Fijian Casualties in Iraq

Embassy of the United States of America
Suva, Fiji
Friday, April 22, 2005

The Embassy has received reports of the death of two Fiji citizens working for a private security company in Iraq.  The reports indicate the two men were on a commercial helicopter that was shot down Thursday afternoon, Iraq time, outside of Baghdad.  Six Americans and three Bulgarians were also reportedly killed.

We wish to convey our deepest sympathies to the families and friends of these two brave men.  The United States deeply values and appreciates the support Fiji and so many of its citizens are providing to international efforts to bring peace, freedom and democracy to the people of Iraq.
