Immigrant Visas

General Information

Persons seeking to immigrate to the United States must be the beneficiary of an approved petition.  Immigration to the United States is divided into the two following categories:

  1. Those who may obtain legal permanent residence status without numerical limitation, and;
  2. Those who are restricted by an annual limitation on the number of persons who may enter as permanent residents. The latter category is further divided into (A) family sponsored immigrants, (B) employment based immigrants, and (C) diversity immigrants.

Contact with the Immigrant Visa Unit can be done either by email on consularsuva@state.gov or by telephone 331-4466 between 2 and 4pm, Monday to Thursday.

Please know that all immigrant visa applicants and petitioners must have prior appointments for all immigrant visa related matters. Persons who arrive at the Embassy without an appointment will not be permitted into the Consular Section.
