The French overseas Territory of French Polynesia is in the Consular District of the American Embassy in Suva, Fiji. There is no U.S. Consular agent or consular office in French Polynesia. The legal profession in French Polynesia follows the French pattern of a separation between 'Avocats' (lawyers), who represent and provide legal assistance to persons having business before the courts, and 'notaires' (notaries) who perform many of the functions of a solicitor in the English legal system. Notaires provide notary services, act as trustees, handle estate, property dealings, collections and provide general legal counsel.
