Diversity Visa (DV) Lottery Registration

The e-DV (Diversity Visa Lottery) system will be open for applications beginning October 2, 2009, and ending at noon U.S. Eastern Standard Time (EST) on November 30, 2009.  Entrants for  DV lottery are encouraged to apply early.  In the past, system delays caused by extremely heavy demand in the final days of the registration period have prevented some applicants from registering for the program.   No entries will be accepted after noon EST on November 30, 2009, regardless of whether or not there are system delays during the registration period.

The DV-2011 lottery registration period will run from noon, EDT on October 2, 2009, until noon, EST November 30, 2009.

The DV-2011 lottery will be conducted entirely electronically, including electronic entry.  Paper entries are not accepted.  The Department has established a dedicated website for the submission of E-DV entries, www.dvlottery.state.gov.

Successfully registered entries will result in the display of a confirmation screen containing the applicant's name and confirmation number, which can then
be printed.  The confirmation page will also provide information the entrant must use to electronically check the status of their own entry.  All successful entrants will be notified by regular mail of their successful entries, but only those entrants who keep their confirmation page information will also be able to check their entry status online.

People may prepare and submit their own entries or have someone submit the entry for them.  Regardless of whether an entry is submitted by the individual directly or assistance is provided by an attorney, friend, relative, etc., only one entry may be submitted in the name of each individual, and the person entering the lottery remains responsible for ensuring that the information is correct and complete.  If the entry is selected, the notification letter will be sent only to
the mailing address provided on the entry.  All entrants, including those not selected, will be able to check the status of their entry through the e-DV
website.  Entrants should hold on to their own confirmation page information so they may independently check the status of their entry.

Warning of Impostor or Fraudulent DV Websites and Emails

We wish to advise the public that there have been instances of fraudulent websites posing as official U.S. Government sites, and "scam" e-mails posing as Diversity Visa lottery notification and soliciting funds.

Actual notification of DV lottery success will originate from the Department of State Kentucky Consular Center, generally in the form of written notification mailed to the address provided in the application process. Legitimate U.S. government notification of Diversity Visa lottery registration will never solicit payment. Diversity Visa applicants will not be required to pay any fees until the day of the personal interview at the US Embassy.

In a similar fraud scheme, some companies posing as the U.S. Government have sought money in order to "complete" lottery entry forms. There is no charge to download and complete the Electronic Diversity Visa Entry Form.

Only the website of the U.S. Embassy in Fiji, and domestic U.S. government sites (which always end with ".gov as the last three letters of the address) should be trusted as authoritative sources of travel and immigration information.
