Fiji Humanitarian Assistance
MR: Saturday, January 17, 2009
The Embassy of the United States has been working with government agencies and non-government organizations and has provided assistance of $50,000 USD (approximately $89,450 FJD) to the Fiji Red Cross
We are visiting the Western division to assess the needs of people in affected areas and to investigate the possibility of the need for a future response.
The provision of humanitarian assistance is a reflection of the goodwill of the American people towards the people of Fiji.
We stand in solidarity with Fiji in its time of need. Our sympathies go out to those who have lost loved ones and to the thousands of evacuees who have been displaced from their homes.
